SL vs IND: 2nd T20I postponed as Krunal Pandya tests positive for Covid-19

Indian cricketer Krunal Pandya has been tested positive for Covid-19, which has caused the second T20I between India and Sri Lanka to be postponed. The match was scheduled to start in Colombo tonight at 20:30 (GMT+6).

The Indian cricketers underwent Rapid Antigen Tests on Tuesday morning. The team’s all-rounder, Krunal Pandya, was found to be positive. Eight more Indian cricketers came in contact with him. Each of them has been sent to the hotel room in isolation.

The second T20I match of the series has been postponed due to this situation. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has said that the entire squad will undergo RT-PCR today (Tuesday) to avoid any further outbreak in the squad.

None of the Sri Lankan cricketers were tested as Covid-19 positive. However, they will be tested again on Wednesday morning. Today’s match could be played on Wednesday, if all the two teams’ squads test negative. And the third T20I could be played on Friday instead of Thursday.

Covid-19 hit early in the tour of India. The ODI series started four days after the scheduled date as Covid-19 cases were seen by the Sri Lankan contingent earlier. Returning from the England tour, batting coach Grant Flower, who was with the Sri Lankan team, was the first to get tested positive for Covid-19. Then their analyst GT Niroshan was also tested as positive. The ODI series was later postponed as the Sri Lankan cricketer in the alternate squad was tested as Covid-19 positive.

India won the 1st match of the T20I series. Earlier, the ODI series was won by the visitors 2-1.
