Pace bowling all-rounder Arjun Tendulkar, the son of India’s legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar, has been ruled out of the IPL 2021 without playing a match in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) leg due to injury. Now, Delhi pacer Simarjeet Singh has been called up to the Mumbai Indians teams to replace Arjun for the rest of the event.
The Mumbai Indians clarified this in a statement. Meanwhile, Simarjeet has started training with the team after completing the mandatory quarantine as per the rules of the tournament.
The 23-year-old pacer was with the Indian team in their last tour of Sri Lanka as a net bowler. In Twenty overs cricket, he has taken 18 wickets in 15 matches at an average of 20.50, with an economy rate of 7.76. He took the second-highest 11 wickets for Delhi at an economy rate of 5.65 in the last Vijay Hazare Trophy.
However, even though Arjun has bowled many times in the nets for the Mumbai Indians, he has not yet got a chance to play in the IPL. The left-arm pace bowling all-rounder made his debut for Mumbai’s senior Twenty20 team in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in January 2021.
Arjun and Simarjeet are both uncapped players in the IPL. In the 2021 auction, the Indians took Arjun to the team with a base price of Rs. 20 lakh.
Mumbai Indians are currently in 5th position in the points table with 10 points after their win over Punjab Kings in IPL 2021 on Tuesday. This year, the team led by Rohit Sharma aims to win the IPL title for the sixth time.
