RR vs CSK Match Highlights
Rajasthan Royals (RR) has picked up a 5-wicket victory with 2 balls in hand over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 68th match of IPL 2022 at Brabourne-CCI Stadium in Mumbai on Friday with the all-round performance of Ravichandran Ashwin. RR has also confirmed the play-off as the third team of the tournament by winning this match.
After winning the toss, CSK captain MS Dhoni decided to bat and sent RR to bowl first. CSK had a great start after coming down to bat. In the beginning, opener Ruturaj Gaikwad (2) went back to the dressing room but CSK picked up a big score of 75 runs without losing any more wickets in 6 overs of the power play.
Devon Conway and Moeen Ali put on 83 off 39 balls for the second wicket partnership. Whereas Conway’s contribution was only 16 runs. But Moeen took on RR bowlers. But no other CSK batters could give him a worthy company.
After the departure of Devon Conway, CSK started losing one wicket after another. N Jagadeesan returned with 1 run and Ambati Rayudu with 3 runs. After losing wickets at regular intervals and by dint of controlled bowling by RR’s bowlers, CSK’s run rate slowed down.
Moeen made 51 runs off 52 balls with skipper Dhoni for the 5th wicket pair. Where Dhoni made 26 off 28 balls in ODI style before being dismissed in the last ball of the 19th over. Moeen Ali got out in the last over. He played a tornado innings of 93 off 57 balls. The English all-rounder hit 3 sixes with 13 boundaries.
Despite Moeen Ali’s stormy innings, CSK’s innings was not very big. In the end, CSK was able to score 150 runs losing 6 wickets in 20 overs.
For RR, Obed McCoy and Yuzvendra Chahal took the maximum number of 2 wickets each. Besides, Ravichandran Ashwin and Tent Boult took one wicket each. Chahal is currently at the top of the list of highest wicket-takers in this year’s edition of IPL by taking a total of 26 wickets.
Chasing an easy target of 151 runs, RR lost 5 wickets and reached the port of victory in 19.4 overs. Yashasvi Jaiswal gave a great start to the team and Ravichandran Ashwin made a good finish to the match. Jos Buttler, the highest run-scorer of the tournament, returned to the dressing room after scoring two runs in this match as well after failing to score well in 3 matches in a row.
However, another opener Yashasvi Jaiswal played an effective innings of 59 off 44 balls with 8 fours and 1 six. Earlier, captain Sanju Samson (15) and Devdutt Padikkal (3) returned to the pavilion cheaply. However, in the end, experienced all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin hit 2 fours and 3 sixes, he played a stormy unbeaten 40-run innings off 23 balls and left the field after winning the match.
Prashant Solanki took the highest number of 2 wickets for CSK. Mitchell Santner, Moeen Ali, and Simarjeet Singh also took one wicket each.
Rajasthan Royals are in the second position of the points table with 18 points from 9 wins and being up-front on the net run rate in 14 matches. They will face top-ranked Gujarat Titans on May 24 in Qualifier 1. On the other hand, Chennai Super Kings ended their IPL journey as the 9th team in the points table with only 4 wins and 8 points in 14 matches.
