Quetta Gladiators’ Guptill scores first PSL century

The eighth season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) started on February 13. Several matches have already been held. However, no batsman has seen a century. Finally, in the match between Quetta Gladiators and Karachi Kings, the visitors witnessed hundred-run innings. Quetta Gladiators’ right-handed opener Martin Guptill scored an impeccable century at the National Stadium in Karachi.

In the match against Karachi on Saturday, Quetta lost the toss and elected to bat first. But Guptill’s team fell into disaster, coming to bat. They lost 4 wickets for 27 runs. Then Guptill took the lead of the team. He ran a rampage alone at one end with the bat. He played an inning of 117 runs from 67 balls. He also became the first batsman to score a century in this tournament.

On his milestone day, Guptill’s team won. They beat Karachi by 6 runs. However, the special feature of this win is that it is Quetta’s first win in the tournament. Guptill scored a century and became the man of the match. The star cricketer is very happy to win the team. However, the opener from Quetta feels that playing an inning like scoring a century on this wicket is quite a difficult task.

After the century, Guptill said, “After the first four batsmen got out, it was not easy to come back. But Iftikhar batted brilliantly in the middle order. He has to be praised. I tried to stay as calm as possible on the field and tried my best. It was difficult to bat on this wicket, but still, I tried to stay positive. The bat-ball connection clicked.”

Meanwhile, the team’s expectations for Guptill increased as he scored a century in the second match of the season. Quetta’s captain Sarfaraz Ahmed said that they want such a good rhythm with Guptill’s bat in the whole tournament. However, the star batsman is determined to meet the team’s expectations.
