Perth Scorchers vs Sydney Sixers (Match 6) – Highlights

In the 6th match of BBL 2022 at Perth Stadium, Perth Scorchers got a great win by 38 runs against Sydney Sixers, thanks to the aggressive bowling of pacer Jhye Richardson. He bagged the player of the match award after taking the maximum of 4 wickets with only 9 runs in 4 overs including 1 maiden in the bowling department.

Perth Scorchers captain Ashton Turner won the toss and elected to bat first and sent off the Sydney Sixers to bowl. Perth Scorchers managed to collect a fighting score of 155 runs after losing 9 wickets in the scheduled 20 overs.

The Perth Scorchers batsmen did not get off to a good start. They lost the opener Adam Lyth (4) on the 2nd ball of the innings. Then another opener Faf du Plessis (14) went back to the dressing room in the 4th over. As a result, they could not score more than 30 runs after losing 2 wickets in 4 overs of Power Play.

But the main blow to the team was the pacer Jackson Bird who came to bowl in the 6th over. His pair of catches in that over knocked Perth Scorchers out of the match. Perth Scorchers scored 49/5 when wicket-keeper batsman Josh Inglis (13) returns to the pavilion in the 7th over.

From there, Aaron Hardie and Ashton Agar brought the Perth Scorchers back into the match. On the 6th wicket, these two made a great partnership of 71 runs off 47 balls. Hardie returned to the dressing room after playing amazing innings of 55 runs from 32 balls, with 5 fours and 3 sixes. On the other hand, Agar scored 24 runs off 24 balls. In the end, Matthew Kelly scored 13 and Jason Behrendorff remained unbeaten with 5 runs.

All bowlers have seen wickets for Sydney Sixers. Jackson Bird took the maximum of 3 wickets. Besides, Izharulhaq Naveed took 2 wickets and Hayden Kerr, Naveen-ul-Haq, Sean Abbott, and Daniel Christian took 1 wicket each.

Chasing the target of 156 runs, the Sydney Sixers batsmen were disorientated at the beginning due to the controlled bowling of the Perth Scorchers bowlers. They lost three wickets to get 13 runs in 4 overs. In the 2nd over of the innings, pacer Jhye Richardson gave the team the first breakthrough by sending opener Kurtis Patterson (3) to the pavilion.

Another pacer, Behrendorff, had put the Sydney Sixers in danger by picking up two wickets in two consecutive balls in the next over. The Sydney Sixers could not overcome that pressure. As a result, they keep losing wickets at regular intervals. A few moments later, Sydney Sixers lost 5 wickets after scoring 31 runs in 7.3 overs.

Then Jordan Silk and Hayden Kerr put on a 75-run partnership in the 6th wicket to bring the team back into the match. However, they were able to reduce the margin of defeat but could not take the team to victory. Silk scored 41 off 32 balls. On the other hand, Hayden Kerr scored 42 runs off 35 balls and became a victim of Richardson.

In the end, the innings of Sydney Sixers ended after scoring 117 runs in the allotted 20 overs. Apart from Richardson, Jason Behrendorff and Andrew Tye took 2 wickets each for Perth Scorchers. Besides, Matthew Kelly and Ashton Agar took 1 wicket each.

Perth Scorchers are now second in the points table after winning their first match in the tournament. On the other hand, Sydney Sixers are now at the bottom of the points table after losing two matches in a row.
