PBKS vs LSG Match Highlights
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have clinched a 20-run victory over Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune in the 42nd match of IPL 2022 on Friday. At the same time, LSG has got up to 3rd place in the standings with this win.
After winning the toss, PBKS captain Mayank Agarwal decided to field first sending LSG to bat. LSG lost their captain KL Rahul at the beginning. Rahul made just 6 runs off 11 balls and was caught behind the wicket by Kagiso Rabada.
However, Quinton de Kock handled that initial push very well. He made 85 off 59 balls for the second wicket with Deepak Hooda.
But when Sandeep Sharma got De Kock (46 off 37 balls) with a help of the wicketkeeper, LSG slipped out of the match again. In the next over, Hooda (34 off 28 balls) got back into the pavilion getting run out. After that PBKS started taking wickets at regular intervals.
Krunal Pandya (6), Marcus Stoinis (1), and Ayush Badoni (4) came on the wicket and returned cheaply. LSG’s scoreboard went from 98 for 1 to 111 for 6 in one fell swoop. They lost 5 wickets to score only 13 runs.
From there, with the contribution of the tail batsmen, LSG lost 8 wickets and collected 153 runs. Jason Holder’s 11 off 8 balls, Dushmantha Chameera’s 17 off 10 balls, and Mohsin Khan’s unbeaten 13 off 6 balls helped LSG reach above 150 runs.
For PBKS, pacer Kagiso Rabada gave away 38 runs in 4 overs but picked up 4 wickets. Besides, Rahul Chahar took 2 wickets and Sandeep Sharma took 1 wicket.
Chasing a challenging 154-run target, PBKS’s innings came to a halt at 133 runs with lost 8 wickets in the allotted 20 overs due to the bowling canon of the LSG’s bowlers. Among the PBKS batsmen, captain Mayank Agarwal (25 off 17 balls) and Jonny Bairstow (32 off 28 balls) were the only batsmen to score well.
Liam Livingstone and Bairstow made 30 off 25 balls for the fourth wicket partnership, which gave PBKS some hopes of victory, but that hope was dashed when Livingstone (18 off 16 balls) returned to the dressing room. The team batting second lost half of their batters to get 92 runs, their worries got some additional kick when they lost 8 wickets for 117 runs in 18 overs, and the match didn’t get any exciting turn from then.
Mohsin Khan was the most successful bowler of LSG in this match. The pacer snapped up 3 wickets for 24 runs. Dushmantha Chameera and Krunal Pandya also cornered their opponents in frugal bowling. Chameera took 2 wickets for 17 runs in 4 overs and Pandya took 2 wickets for 11 runs in 4 overs. Besides, Ravi Bishnoi took 1 wicket.
Lucknow Super Giants are at 3rd place in the points table with 7 wins and 3 losses in 9 matches. On the other hand, with 4 wins and 5 losses in 9 matches, Punjab Kings are now in 7th position on the standings.
