Pandemic worries hit ahead of the ICC Test Championship

The UK has red-listed India but The International Cricket Council (ICC) is confident the World Test Championship final in Southampton will be rolled in the field on time. All arrivals from India to the UK are banned because of the rapid spread of the new variant of Covid-19.

Soon after UK Health Minister, Matt Hancock announced the stated above, the ICC managers started to get in touch with the UK government officials to discuss the potential impact of the decision on the first-ever World Test Championship (WTC) final between India and New Zealand from June 18-22.

An ICC spokesperson revealed that they are currently discussing with the UK Government about this issue. The ECB and other Members have explained about the staging of international cricket safely amid the pandemic and revealed their confidence in the continuation of that in the World Test Championship Final.

The Indian team is expected to leave for the UK immediately after the IPL final in Ahmedabad on May 30 despite the start of the match is still about two months away.

There might be a requirement for the Indian team members to undergo quarantine before flying off to London and discussions are going on within the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on this topic. Some players are already in their respective IPL bubbles and it’s not sure whether they have to undergo isolation again. After finishing the previous season of IPL in UAE, the Indian team had to do isolation before the Australia series and this might be the case this time as well.

The Indian players might stay back after the final as they have a 5-match Test series against England in August. Most probably, they should again undergo a quarantine period coming back home.
