Pakistan’s former umpire Asad Rauf died. He was 66 years old at the time of his death. This has been confirmed by Cricinfo. According to Cricinfo, he died after suffering a heart attack in Lahore.
Asad Rauf started his career as an umpire in the 1990s but managed his first ODI in 2000. Then in 2004 he became a panel umpire in ODI. He was appointed as a Test umpire for the first time in 2005. Later he joined the elite panel of ICC in 2006.
The 66-year-old Pakistani made his Test debut with the Bangladesh-Zimbabwe Test. He managed 64 Test matches, 139 ODI matches and 28 T20 matches in his illustrious career.
But his umpiring career ended in 2013. He left India when his name was implicated in the IPL spot-fixing scandal. And the next year he was excluded from the ICC.
He was also banned by the BCCI in 2016. He was banned for five years for corruption and violating code of conduct.
Many mourned at the death of the former umpire of Pakistan. Many former cricketers have also expressed their opinion that no one can fill his void in umpiring.
It is to be noted that before coming to umpiring, he used to play in the domestic cricket league in Pakistan. He has an average of 28.76 in 71 first-class matches. After Alim Dar, he was most popular umpires in Pakistan.
