The wound of the Asia Cup final loss is still fresh in Pakistani’s mind. Another sad news, one of the country’s bowlers has been banned. It is known that Pakistan’s left-arm spinner Asif Afridi has been temporarily banned from all forms of cricket due to corruption allegations.
This information was confirmed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) through a statement. However, the board has not given any details about the type of corruption Asif is involved in. Currently, this spinner is playing regularly for Pakistan’s domestic league team Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The 35-year-old cricketer was called up to the Pakistan team for the home match against Australia last March but did not play in a single match. It was believed that if he kept his domestic cricket form for a few more days, he could have settled into the Pakistan team. Before that, his cricket career is under threat due to allegations of corruption against him.
Asif’s crime and the punishment on him have been reported by PCB. In a statement, they said, ”Two charges have been issued against this cricketer for breaching Article 2.4 of the Code of Conduct. Asif will have to respond to the notice within the next 14 working days.”
It is known from PCB’s notice that till now there is no proof of the board’s allegations against Asif. The matter is still under investigation. But Asif has to stay away from all kinds of cricket activities from now on. Further decisions will be informed after the investigation.
It is to be noted that he has taken 118 wickets in 35 first-class matches so far in domestic cricket. Afridi has 59 wickets in 42 matches in List A cricket.
