Pakistan threatened not to play World Cup

India will not go to Pakistan to play Asia Cup next year. In response to which the Pakistan Cricket Board threatened to withdraw its name from the ODI World Cup. If the Indian team does not go to Pakistan to play the upcoming Asia Cup, Pakistan will not play in the World Cup to be held in India.

A few days ago there were speculations that the Indian cricket team will go to play the Asia Cup in Pakistan. However, ending the speculation, BCCI Secretary Jai Shah made it clear that the Indian cricket team will not go to play in Pakistan. He said, “We will not go to play in Pakistan. The Asia Cup can be held in a neutral country. The government decides whether the team will go to Pakistan or not. We will not comment on that. The 2023 Asia Cup will be held in a neutral country.”

The Pakistan Cricket Board responded to Jai Shah’s comments. Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Ramiz Raza has warned that Pakistan will withdraw from the ODI World Cup to be held in India in 2023 if India does not go to Pakistan to play the Asia Cup.

Meanwhile, a PCB official said, “We don’t understand how Joy can unilaterally talk about withdrawing from the competition. Pakistan has been responsible for hosting the Asia Cup by the ACC Executive Board. The ACC President hasn’t given that. How can Joy say such a thing?”

The Pakistani cricket official also informed that they he would withdraw from the ACC if necessary. He further said, “We will consider withdrawing from ACC if necessary. PCB believes that ACC was formed to develop and expand cricket in this region of the world. To bring unity among the member countries. Can the ACC president give any unilateral opinion? If so. There is no need for Pakistan to stay.”

Due to political tension, India-Pakistan basically do not play any bilateral series outside of ICC events. India last toured Pakistan in 2008. On the other hand, Pakistan last visited India in 2012. The bilateral series between the two countries got stuck in the political dispute.
