Hong Kong’s exit from the group stage of the Asia Cup was expected as they were in the same group with two strong teams India and Pakistan. The team consisting of businessmen, students, and deliverymen did not cause any upset. After losing their first match against India, they were quite helpless in the match against Pakistan.

Nizakat’s team has been knocked out of the tournament after losing by a huge margin of 155 runs. Chasing a huge target of 194 runs, they were bowled out for just 38 runs. After defeating Hong Kong, Pakistan got the ticket to the Super Four of the Asia Cup as the fourth and last team.

Hong Kong scored 16 runs in the first 2 overs at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Friday (September 2) after coming down to chase the total. After that, the procession of wickets tumbling continued. Nizakat departed on the first ball of the third over. He scored 8 runs off 12 balls before getting out by delivery of Naseem Shah.

Babar Hayat faced 4 balls coming down to bat at one down but could not add any runs to the scoreboard. He was also defeated by Naseem. Aizaz Khan scored 1 run in 5 balls watching carefully but gave away his wicket in the next ball, Shadab Khan enjoyed that time.

After that, Kinchit Shah returned to the pavilion with the team’s 30 runs, Scott McKechnie with 31 runs, and Haroon Arshad with 36 runs. Among them, Mohammad Nawaz took the wickets of Kinchit and McKechnie. Among the rest, Zeeshan Ali scored 3 runs and Ayush Shukla scored 1 run. Shadab Khan scalped the highest number of 4 wickets for 8 runs for Pakistan. Besides, Mohammad Nawaz took 3 wickets, Naseem Shah 2 wickets, and Shahnawaz Dahani 1 wicket each.

Earlier, Pakistan scored 193 runs after losing the toss and batting first. This is the highest collection of this year’s Asia Cup. Haroon Arshad finished the first over of the innings brilliantly against Pakistan. He bowled 4 dot balls, costing only 2 runs. Pakistan scored 5 runs in the next over.

Hong Kong captain Nizakat Khan called on Ehsan Khan to bowl the next over. Babar Azam was picked off by Ehsan in the third ball after giving 2 runs in the first 2 balls. The bowler took the catch by himself. The Pakistan skipper scored 9 runs off 8 balls before getting out.

Fakhar Zaman came to the crease when Babar Azam got out. He could not get out of the slow-paced batting at the end of the power play by partnering with Rizwan. At the end of the power play, their collection stood at 40 runs on the scoreboard.

The umpire gave out Fakhar in the ninth over bowled by Mohammad Ghazanfar. But the Pakistani batter’s review depicted that the ball pitched outside the leg stump, Fakhar also survived and did not return to the pavilion. The pair of Rizwan and Fakhar tried to play aggressively from the 14th over. Both scored half-centuries.

Rizwan completed his fifty off 42 balls. Fakhar got out after scoring 53 runs off 41 balls by Ehsan Khan. His innings was played with 3 fours and 2 sixes. In the end, Rizwan, who was unbeaten on 78 runs, had 6 fours and a six in his 57-ball innings. 35 runs off 15 balls from Khushdil Shah’s bat at the end of Pakistan’s innings.
