NZ vs IND (1st ODI) – Highlights

India and New Zealand met in the first of three ODIs at Eden Park, Auckland, New Zealand on Friday. Batting first in that match, India set a huge target after playing the scheduled 50 overs. But chasing that target, New Zealand reached the target before the end of the scheduled over. As a result, they took a step towards winning the series by winning the 1st match. On the other hand, Tom Latham won the man of the match title by batting brilliantly in that match.

India won the rain-interrupted T20 series. But after the start of the ODI series, India had to lose to New Zealand despite scoring 300 plus runs in the first match.

Shikhar Dhawan’s team lost to Kane Williamson’s team by 7 wickets in the first match. Batting first, India scored 306 runs. Half-centuries were scored by Captain Shikhar Dhawan, Shubman Gill, and Shreyas Iyer.

Still, India could not win the match. India had to lose mainly because of the failure of the bowlers. With 17 balls remaining, New Zealand took the winning run with 7 wickets in hand. Tom Latham scores a brilliant century. Kane Williams also went close to a century. The Kiwis took a 1-0 lead in the series.

The two Indian openers took the rope of the match with their brilliant batting from the beginning. Although India won the toss and chose to bat, Dhawan was in the power from the start. Dhawan scored 72 runs from 77 balls with the help of 13 fours. Shubman scored 50 runs off 65 balls. He also hit 1 four and 3 sixes. Together they made a pair of 124 runs. Shreyas also put up runs at number three.

Earlier, when the two Indian openers returned quickly, the responsibility of taking the Indian innings forward was on the shoulders of Shreyas and Rishabh Pant. Shreyas did his duty but Pant failed. He was bowled out after making 15 runs off 23 balls with the help of 2 fours. Suryakumar returned to the dressing room in that over. He hit four on the first ball. In the next ball, he did not get a run. Then Suryakumar was caught in the slip on the third ball and returned to the dressing room.

Pant and Suryakumar did not get runs but Sanju Samson scored 36 runs from 38 balls with the help of 4 fours. He and Shreyas rescued India, who were under pressure after losing successive wickets. They made a pair of 94 runs. Washington Sunder remained unbeaten with 37 runs off 16 balls in the last over. His innings of 37 runs had 3 fours and 3 sixes. It is doubtful whether India would have crossed the 300-run mark without him. Shreyas was at the crease till the last over. He scored 80 runs with the help of 4 fours and 4 sixes before being dismissed by Southee. In the end, India scored 306 runs with 11 runs extra in 50 overs.

Southee and Ferguson took 3 wickets each for New Zealand. Adam Milne took 1 wicket. Southee got a wicket but gave 73 runs in 10 overs. Ferguson gave 59 runs.

Set to bat with a target of 307 runs, the two Kiwi openers Finn Allen (22) and Devon Conway (24) were dismissed early. Daryl Mitchell scored 11 runs. Losing three wickets for 88 runs, India failed to break New Zealand who was under some pressure. Because Williamson and Latham then took the match out easily.

Williamson and Tom Latham put on a partnership of 221 runs. Latham remained unbeaten on 145 runs. He played 104 balls to score 145 runs, with 19 fours and 5 sixes. Williamson did not get a hundred for just 6 runs. He remains unbeaten on 94 runs. He scored this run off 98 balls with 7 fours and 1 six.

Umran Malik made his debut for India and took 2 wickets. Shardul Thakur also got a wicket. But none of the others got a wicket.
