This year’s T20 World Cup started on October 16. On the first day of the eighth edition of the World Cup, Namibia put on a spectacular performance. Namibia surprised the entire cricket world by defeating the Asian champion, Sri Lanka. Since then, Namibia has been praised all around. Starting from cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, many cricket experts have joined it.
Sri Lanka-Namibia faces off on the first day of the World Cup campaign. In response to Namibia’s 163 runs, this year’s Asian champions Sri Lanka were bowled out for 108 runs. ICC associate country Namibia won by a huge margin of 55 runs.
The entire cricket world was surprised by such a victory. Many cricket experts have also expressed their views on social media. India’s former legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar was not left out. He gave his response on Twitter. Sachin wrote, “Namibia told the cricket world today! Remember the name.”
Another former Indian cricketer Wasim Zafar also gave his reaction. He wrote, “Respect Namibia.” Popular commentator Ian Bishop responded. He tweeted, “Great start to ICC 2022 T20 World Cup, Gerhard Erasmus’s Namibia’s biggest achievement so far. Awesome.”
Former Netherlands cricketer Ben tweeted, “What a great performance Namibia. Shows that there is no longer a difference between ‘associates’ and full members.”
It should be noted that this year’s World Cup started on October 16, but the main phase will start next Saturday, October 22. And the final will be held on November 13. A total of 16 teams participated in this cricket war which lasted for about 1 month. Out of these 8 teams played in the qualifiers. The remaining 8 teams will play in the main stage. There will be a total of 45 matches this season.
