The Border- Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia means excitement. The excitement on the field spreads beyond the field. This time is no exception. Controversy over the pitch started even before the first Test in Nagpur started. Former captain Ricky Ponting clearly said that Australia will suffer on the tour of India. The danger that the Australians had feared finally happened. After three days, the visitors lost by an inning. After that, Nagpur’s wicket was discussed again. Many have asked the question of whether Nagpur’s wicket was eligible for playing. But according to Australia captain Pat Cummins, the pitch was eligible for playing, despite the ball spinning more on the wicket.
The advantage that the hosts have at home is not new. But by making spin heaven, India created a storm over team Australia. The Indian spinners dismissed a total of 16 Aussie batsmen in two innings. After being bowled out for 177 in the first innings, Australia was bowled out for just 91 in the second innings. But the Indians scored 400 runs on the same pitch. So Australian captain Pat Cummins thinks it was possible to do well with the bat even in spin heaven. The Aussie captain said that though the ball was turning more, it wasn’t like that ineligible for playing. Cummins has no complaints about Nagpur’s wicket.
After losing the match, Cummins spoke about his mistakes and weakness. In the press conference, he said, “Nagpur’s wicket got too much spin. The ball got enough turns. That’s why we couldn’t stand it. But I think we could have played better on this wicket too. We didn’t score enough runs in the first innings. If we can score 100 more runs in the first innings, they (India) could have been put under pressure. But we have no complaints about the wicket.”
Speaking about this match, Cummins added, “It is always difficult to play on Indian soil. There is an advantage for the spinners here. There is nothing to criticize. But in the first innings in Nagpur, some of our batsmen were very comfortable. I noticed that. Those who have been at the crease for a long time could have played a big inning. But nobody did it. We have to play with more responsibility. We have to give our best in the second Test. We are hopeful of turning around.”
After winning the first Test in 3 days, India took a 1-0 lead in the four-match series. The second test will start next Friday. And that match will be held in Delhi, at The Arun Jaitley Stadium. However, it is not known what the wicket of that match will be. But it is believed that this wicket will also be a heaven of spin. But if Australia succumbs to spin once again, it will be very difficult for the Aussie team to save the series.
