Mosaddek Hossain failed to fulfill expectations

All-rounder Mosaddek Hossain has been named in the squad for the second Test of the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka as a gift of his outstanding performances in domestic tournaments. Originally, he got the opportunity after the injury of spinner Nayeem Hasan.

Despite returning to the national team with hope, the right-handed all-rounder could not show any performance in the two innings of the Dhaka Test. He has scored only 9 runs in two innings. He was unable to score any wicket with the ball.

Mosaddek has disappointed the management and coaches with his poor performance after his comeback in the team. At the post-match press conference, the head coach of the team, Russell Domingo, uttered a message of despair. Commenting on the performance of Mosaddek, Domingo said, “Mosaddek played because we needed someone as the fifth bowler. We thought he could bowl 15 overs a day. I have never been in favor of playing with four bowlers. We have suffered from it before. Mosaddek did not do as well as I had hoped. ”

Yasir Ali Rabbi was a better option instead of Mosaddek. So why was Mosaddek taken into the squad with keeping Rabbi optional? In response, the head coach of the Bangladesh national team said that he was not interested to use Rabbi as the 8^th batter.

The coach thought Mosaddek would be able to play matches like Mehidy Hasan Miraz. He said, ”Rabbi had to bat at number eight to play. Which means nothing. We thought that Mosaddek might be able to do the same as Miraz. Not getting Miraz is a big loss. Because he bowls a lot of overs, controls the ball, takes wickets, and even bats. This is the real reason for taking Mosaddek.”
