Mark Boucher to step down as South Africa's head coach

It is like lightning without clouds in South African cricket. South African cricket team head coach Mark Boucher has decided to step down. Boucher will end his work with the Proteas with the upcoming T20 World Cup to be held in Australia. It is known that he has taken this decision to work in the upcoming SA T20 league.

Boucher took over as South Africa’s head coach in December 2019. Playing under him, the Proteas have won 11 Tests, 12 ODIs, and 23 T20 matches so far. In the current ICC World Test Championship, Boucher’s team is second in the points table after winning 6 out of 10 matches.

Meanwhile, Boucher has contracted with the South African Cricket Board until the 2023 ODI World Cup. But before that, the South African Cricket Board was surprised by the decision of the head coach to resign. Chief executive Foletsi Moseki said, “We are very surprised and shocked. Boucher has told us he has other interests and wants to take that opportunity”.

According to ESPNcricinfo, Boucher will serve as the head coach of MI Cape Town in South Africa’s new T20 league. It is to be noted that Boucher took the team to the semi-finals after winning 5 consecutive matches in the last Twenty20 World Cup. But their World Cup ended in a run rate calculation. Meanwhile, the South African Cricket Board said it will start the new recruitment process soon after Boucher’s stepping down.
