Manchester Originals have booked their spot in the final of The Hundred 2022 with a 5-wicket win over London Spirit thanks to Laurie Evans’ devastating innings at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton. Captain Laurie Evans was named the player of the match after playing a match-winning innings of 72 runs from 34 balls. Along with that, London Spirit got knocked out of the tournament after losing this match.

Early in the game, London Spirit captain Eoin Morgan won the toss and elected to bat, which sent Manchester Originals to field first. London Spirit collected a respectable score of 150 runs losing 7 wickets in the scheduled 100 balls.

However, London Spirit’s batsmen did not get off to a good start as opener Adam Rossington returned to the dugout on the 2nd ball of the innings before opening the run book. However, Zak Crawley and Ben McDermott, who were on the wicket, did not allow to understand his absence. Thanks to these two, they picked up 43 runs after losing one wicket in 25 balls of power play.

As Crawley departed, the pair broke at the team’s 69 runs. Crawley scored 36 runs off 23 balls. However, Ben McDermott, who was at the other end, single-handedly led the team forward. McDermott, who brought up a 33-ball half-century, eventually returned to the pavilion with 59 runs. He had 8 fours and 1 six in this 38-ball innings. After his departure, skipper Morgan came to the wicket and got out without scoring a run.

Daniel Lawrence scored 10 runs off 13 balls when he returned to the dressing room, the team’s score was 121/5 then. All-rounder Ravi Bopara’s storming innings eventually gave London Spirit a fighting score. Bopara scored 34 runs off 16 balls, with 2 fours and sixes each. Paul Walter took the maximum number of 3 wickets for Manchester Originals. Besides, Matthew Parkinson and Joshua Little took 1 wicket each.

Chasing a challenging target of 151 runs, Manchester Originals’ two openers Philip Salt and Laurie Evans gave the team a great start. These two put together a remarkable opening partnership of 101 runs. Where Philip Salt contributed only 29 runs, his 18-ball innings had 2 fours and 1 six.

Courtesy of these duo, Manchester Originals crossed the team’s score to 100 runs in 48 balls. Devastating batsman Evans scored a 19-ball half-century. In the end, the captain of Manchester Originals returned to the pavilion after playing an impeccable innings of 72 runs off 34 balls smashing 7 fours and 3 sixes. Once these two openers laid the foundation for victory, it was only a matter of time to cover the rest of the way.

Tristan Stubbs, the hero of Manchester Originals’ victory in the previous match, scored 18 runs from 12 balls in this match. In the end, thanks to the unbeaten innings of Tom Lammonby (13 from 7 balls) and Ashton Turner (9 from 5 balls), Manchester Originals reached the port of victory with 11 balls in hand.

Nathan Ellis and Mason Crane picked up the highest number of 2 wickets each for London Spirit. Besides, Liam Dawson took 1 wicket. Manchester Originals and Trent Rockets will take on each other in the tournament’s final match at Lord’s in London today (September 3).
