The inaugural season of the Women’s Premier League has been unique in many ways, but one major way that the tournament has managed to stand out is in its strong representation of women’s empowerment. The tournament also gained a lot of traction by announcing free entry for women in the stadiums on matchdays throughout the competition.
With Women’s Day right around the corner, the tournament recently announced free entry for everyone during match 6 of the tournament. The match will be played between Gujarat Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Brabourne Stadium on March 8. March 8 is celebrated by the United Nations as International Women’s Day to celebrate womanhood and their achievements from all walks of life.
Thus, in solidarity with the women fraternity, WPL decided to bring everyone together to celebrate womanhood on the special day. The news was announced during the fourth match of the tournament between RCB and MI, which was also confirmed by WPL through their social media platforms.
“A Special Way to mark a Special Day! #TATAWPL celebrates Women’s Day with Free entry for all for the #GGvRCB match on March 8, 2023!” WPL posted on Instagram.
Royal Challengers Bangalore continue to struggle
One of the most popular franchises, Royal Challengers Bangalore have one of the strongest squads in the WPL. With stars like Ellyse Perry, Smriti Mandhana, Sophie Devine, and Richa Ghosh in the ranks, the team was destined for greatness.
However, that has not been the case so far, as the Challengers have found themselves on the receiving end in both their games so far. Taking on Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians, RCB were completely dominated in both of the matches, taking a toll on their run-rate as well. They had a feeble show with the ball and on both occasions, the batters seemed to get crushed under their own heap of expectations. Starting well, the openers on in both the matches have given their wickets playing reckless shots which has more or less been the trend with the rest of the pack as well.
Skipper Smriti Mandhana will be looking to come up with a solution for their continued struggle, and that too quickly if they want to have any chance of progressing further in the competition. After losing the first two matches, they will next take on Gujarat Giants on March 8 and will hope to tap on Beth Mooney’s absence to open their account.
Gujarat have also been struggling and will be raring to clinch their first win of the season.
