The dream run is over for the Mumbai Indians as Harmanpreet Kaur’s side suffered an embarrassing defeat against the Delhi Capitals in the Women’s Premier League. Their second successive defeat means that they are no longer the top-ranked side in the competition as Meg Lannings’s Delhi claimed the top spot after their victory.
They face Royal Challengers Bangalore in their last league fixture and will be looking to address their batting failures, especially at the top of the order. The lack of runs from the lower-middle order is also a concern for Harmanpreet Kaur’s team and they will be hoping to bounce back in the upcoming match against Smriti Mandhana’s buoyant RCB.
Here’s Mumbai Indians predicted XI for the 18th match against Royal Challengers Bangalore :
Openers – Yastika Bhatia (wk), Hayley Matthews
Indian wicketkeeper-batter Yastika Bhatia failed to reach the double digits for a second game running as she became Marizanne Kapp’s first victim of the match. Her form at the top of the order has been crucial for the Mumbai-based outfit, and the southpaw will be hoping to rediscover her touch with the bat in the upcoming match.
Hayley Matthews might be among the leading wicket-takers of the tournament, but her team would like more runs from her at the top of the order. She has managed just two 30+ scores in her last five outings and has looked like a shadow of herself.
Middle order – Nat Sciver-Brunt, Harmanpreet Kaur (c)
A first ball duck for star all-rounder Nat Sciver-Brunt against the Delhi Capitals did not help Mumbai Indians’ cause at all, as they were in dire straights during the powerplay. She has been one of the consistent performers for the Mumbai-based franchise, unfortunately, she had an off day in all departments of the game.
Mumbai Indians skipper Harmanpreet Kaur tried to steady the ship for her side like she had done so often in the tournament. She did succeed to some extent, thanks to a handy partnership with Pooja Vastrakar, but her dismissal in the 15th over of the innings jolted her side’s hopes of a strong finish.
All-rounders – Amelia Kerr, Amanjot Kaur, Pooja Vastrakar
Amelia Kerr the bowler has had a tremendous inaugural edition of the WPL, but it’s her exploits with the bat that has let down the Mumbai Indians. The 22-year-old all-rounder needs to come to the party for her side in the upcoming fixture to build some momentum heading into the knockout stage.
Young Indian all-rounder Amanjot Kaur looked good at the crease in an abysmal batting performance by the Mumbai Indians against the Delhi Capitals. Amanjot contributed with 19 runs in her 16 balls at the fag end of the innings to take her side to a sort of fighting total.
Pooja Vastrakar was drafted into the playing eleven for the game against the Delhi Capitals, and the hard-hitting Indian all-rounder contributed with a brisk cameo for her side. She stitched together a valiant partnership with skipper Harmanpreet Kaur when the chips were down for the Mumbai-based franchise.
Bowlers – Issy Wong, Humaira Kazi, Saika Ishaque, Jintimani Kalita
Young English pacer Issy Wong has been enjoying life with the bat for the Mumbai Indians. Following her brisk cameo against the UP Warriroz, the Middlesex-born cricketer played another handy innings for the Mumbai Indians against the Delhi Capitals. However, she failed to make a mark with the ball as she leaked 20 runs in her two overs.
Saika Ishaque headed into Delhi Capitals clash on the back of two wicketless matches for her side. However, things got from bad to worse for the left-arm spinner as the Capitals’ batter took a liking to the 27-year-old. She was taken for 36 runs in her two overs and was largely ineffective with the ball.

Hayley Matthews, Yastika Bhatia (wk), Harmanpreet Kaur (c), Nat Sciver-Brunt, Amelia Kerr, Amanjot Kaur, Pooja Vastrakar, Humaira Kazi, Issy Wong, Jintimani Kalita, Saika Ishaque
