Gujarat Giants Women will be looking to register back-to-back wins as they face in-form Delhi Capitals Women in the ninth match of the Women’s Premier League 2023 (WPL) at Navi Mumbai’s Dr DY Patil Sports Academy on March 11. They registered their first win of the season in their last game against struggling Royal Challengers Bangalore in a thrilling clash and will be looking to build momentum on that.

On the other hand, Delhi Capitals tasted their first defeat of this season in their last game against Mumbai Indians. They were bowled out on just 105 runs while batting first despite a fine knock of 43 off 41 from in-from Meg Lanning. Mumbai Indians then easily reached the target in just 15 overs with eight wickets in hand to further cement their position at the top of the WPL points table.

The Capitals missed out on a chance to go top of the table but remain in the second position with four points. They will be looking to ignore another defeat to quickly return to winnings ways with no panic changes to their preferred playing XI.

Their top-order is in terrific form with Lanning leading the scoring chart in the tournament but the management will be hoping for better performances from all-rounders Marizanne Kapp and Alice Capsey, with the former just scoring 57 runs and taking one wicket so far.

Coming to the Giants, they further strengthened their team by the addition of star South Africa batter Laura Wolvaardt as a replacement for injured skipper Beth Mooney. Wolvaardt was the leading run-getter in the recent Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 and has scored four half-centuries in her last four innings.

Harleen Deol and Sophia Dunkley smashed big fifties against RCB to post a 201/7 total in the last match but the bowlers struggled and almost cost two points. Stand-in skipper Sneh Rana has managed to score just 12 runs and has taken only two wickets at an economy rate of 9.30 from the opening three games. Tanuja Kanwar and Mansi Joshi are also struggling for the wickets at the moment and fans can expect some changes to their WPL squad against Delhi Capitals.

Pitch & Conditions:

The pitch at Navi Mumbai’s Dr DY Patil Sports Academy offers a batting-friendly surface in T20 cricket with an average first innings score of 151. Batters are enjoying a good run on flat surface and a quick outfield at the venue. Delhi Capitals smashed 200-plus total in their last game here and fans can witness another high-scoring game on Saturday.

Probable Playing XIs for GUJ-W vs DEL-W

Gujarat Giants Women

Gujarat Giants registered their first win in the tournament and now are further boosted by the arrival of Laura Wolvaardt. Annabel Sutherland is likely to be benched to make a place for Wolvaardt in the playing XI despite taking two wickets in the last game. However, Sutherland’s exclusion will add more pressure on other pacers Kim Garth and Mansi Joshi with a lack of a sixth bowling option.

Probable Playing XI: Sophia Dunkley, Sabbineni Meghana, Laura Wolvaardt, Harleen Deol, Ashleigh Gardner, Dayalan Hemalatha, Sneh Rana (c), Kim Garth, Sushma Verma (wk), Mansi Joshi, Tanuja Kanwar,

Delhi Capitals Women

The Capitals are unlikely to tinker with their playing XI despite a big defeat against Mumbai Indians in the last game. But inconsistent performances from bowlers might tempt the management to test their bench strength.  Radha Yadav remains without a wicket despite playing all three games and will be under pressure to make an impact in this game to justify her inclusion in the playing XI.

Probable Playing XI: Meg Lanning (c), Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodriguez, Alice Capsey, Marizanne Kapp, Taniyaa Bhatia (wk), Jess Jonassen, Minnu Mani, Radha Yadav, Shikha Pandey, Tara Norris
