The inaugural season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023 has been full of ups and downs. As Mumbai Indians continue to dominate every team, things haven’t been the same for Royal Challengers Bangalore. Out of the six matches that RCB have played so far, they have only been able to win one.
Their latest game was against UP Warriorz where the Smriti Mandhana-led side registered their first victory of the season. Kanika Ahuja was the star of the game, as her knock of 46 runs was integral to RCB’s run chase.
On the other end, Ellyse Perry impressed with the ball as the Australian great took three wickets and conceded just 16 runs in the process in RCB‘s first innings. Through her fabulous bowling display, Perry once again added her name to the record books as she clocked the fastest delivery ever bowled in women’s T20 cricket.
Bowling to Sophie Ecclestone during their encounter with UPW, Ellyse Perry bowled a delivery that was clocked at 130.5 kmph, which went down as the fastest delivery in women’s T20 cricket, a record previously held by Shabnim Ismail.
RCB still in trouble despite clinching first win
As Royal Challengers Bangalore grabbed the first win of the WPL 2023, things still look bad for them. After six matches played so far, RCB find themselves in fourth place in the WPL standings with two points in six games. Gujarat Giants are levelled on points with RCB, however, they have played one game less.
Bangalore’s next games include encounters with Gujarat Giants and Mumbai Indians and the team will have to win both of their remaining games, Nevertheless, they will still have to depend on other teams’ results to hope for a spot in the playoffs of the tournament. Their game against Gujarat could provide them with their second win of the season. However, they will have a mountain to climb in their final league stage encounter, where they face Mumbai Indians, who are undefeated this season so far.
