Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) named two 18-member squads for the ODI and T20I series against New Zealand on Friday, March 17. Sri Lanka will be coming in for the ODI series, carrying ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League points with it. The Dasun Shanaka-led team are currently in the 10th spot in the Super League table with 77 points. They will be looking to gain some points to secure direct qualification for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.
The ODI series is scheduled to begin from March 25, while the T20I series commences from April 2.
Fast bowler Dushmantha Chameera has been ruled out from both series as he is still undergoing rehabilitation after his left ankle surgery. Meanwhile, former Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews will return to the team after a two-year break. His name is included in the squad for the ODI series. The 35-year-old last played an ODI in 2021 against West Indies.
Wicketkeeper Kusal Perera was named in the T20 squad for the first time in 16 months. The 32-year-old last played in the format against West Indies in November 2021.
Auckland to host SL vs NZ 1st ODI, 1st T20I
The first ODI match will be played at the Eden Park in Auckland on March 25. The three-match T20Is series starts on April 2 in the same city.
Sri Lanka and New Zealand began their second and final Test in Wellington on Friday. The second Test match between Sri Lanka and New Zealand created history, as it is the 2500th match in the history of the longest format of the game.
