The Indian Premier League season 16 has got off to a terrific start as fans are enjoying the tournament being played in the home and away format after a long time. The cricket fanatics are turning up in huge numbers at the stadiums to cheer for their favourite teams and see them take down the opposition. Fans at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru were also seen in a happy mood during their team’s season opener game against Mumbai Indians as RCB won the match by 8 wickets.
Apart from the cricketing action that made headlines during the game, a video also has been going viral all over social media where fans can be seen trolling the Mumbai Indians and India captain Rohit Sharma. In the video, a group of people can be seen chanting ‘Rohit Vadapav’ from the stands as Mumbai got a crushing defeat against the home team.

The Mumbai Indians captain had a forgettable outing in the first game as he was dismissed after scoring just 1 off 10 balls. Sharma seemed to be riding on his luck during his short stay at the crease as he first survived a run-out chance in the second over and was later dropped by Mohammed Siraj in the fifth over following a collision with Dinesh Karthik.
However, the opening batter couldn’t make the most of the chances as he was finally dismissed in the sixth over edging the ball by Akash Deep straight to the wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik. The 35-year-old has been having a tough time with the bat in IPL since 2017 as he’s been averaging in the 20s for the past six seasons.
He last scored a half-century in IPL in the 2021 season and could only manage to score 268 runs in 14 innings in Mumbai’s worst season ever in 2022 where they finished last on the points table.
Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis star for RCB in the run chase
Coming back to the match, after being put in to bat first, Mumbai’s batting faltered against the dangerous bowling by RCB and were left reeling at 48/4 after 8.5 overs. A scintillating knock from Tilak Varma of 84* off 46 balls helped them reach a decent total of 171/7.
In reply, RCB openers Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis were all over Mumbai right from the word go as they added 148 runs for the first wicket in just 89 balls. Du Plessis went on to score 73 off 43 balls while Kohli remained unbeaten on 82* off 49 helping his side chase down the target with 22 balls to spare. Du Plessis was awarded Player of the Match for his brilliant knock and a spectacular catch he took of Hrithik Shokeen in the first innings.
