The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is all set to begin at the end of March. Almost all franchises have already started the pre-season campaign before they start the actual training. Meanwhile, some teams have dealt major blows with their key players arriving late for the tournament due to international assignments.

As per various reports, South African players will join their respective IPL teams after the start of the tournament. The Proteas are set to play two ODIs against the Netherlands. However, almost 9 players who are included in the ODI squad are set to miss the first few games of the IPL.

The most affected franchise will be Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), as they have named South Africa opener, Aiden Markram, as their new skipper. Not only him but wicket-keeper Heinrich Klaasen and Marco Jansen are also included in the current ODI setup for South Africa associated with SRH.

Besides SRH, Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Titans, Lucknow Super Giants, Mumbai Indians, and Punjab Kings are the other teams to suffer. For DC, Anrich Nortje and Lungi Ngidi will not be available at the beginning of their campaign and Titans will miss the services of David Miller. Lucknow Super Giants’ Quinton de Kock, Mumbai Indians’ Tristan Stubbs, and Punjab Kings’ Kagiso Rabada will also arrive late.

Gujarat Titans will lock horns with CSK in IPL 2023 opener

As per ESPNCricinfo, South Africa’s direct qualification for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India is at stake. However, Cricket South Africa (CSA) had earlier requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to allow their first-choice players to participate in the two ODIs against the Netherlands. The report claimed that the BCCI has granted their request. The ODIs will be played on March 31 and April 2, respectively.

The 2023 edition of IPL is returning to the home-away format. The tournament will commence from March 31. The opening match will see the clash of defending champions Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
