MI vs CSK, IPL 2023 Match 12 Stats Review: Ajinkya Rahane’s heroics, CSK’s feat and other stats

Brilliant bowling display from the spinners, followed by a sensational 61-run-knock from Ajinkya Rahane saw Chennai Super Kings defeating their arch-rivals Mumbai Indians by a margin of seven wickets in the 12th match of the Indian Premier League 2023. MI hence lost their second consecutive game.

Speaking about the game, MS Dhoni & Co won the toss and opted to field first. MI openers got off to a brisk start in the powerplay, as the duo added 38 runs in first four overs. Tushar Deshpande drew first blood for CSK as he cleaned up skipper Rohit Sharma for a 13-ball 21 at the close of fourth over.

Cameron Green soon joined Ishan Kishan as they both kept the scoreboard ticking till the powerplay. Immediately after the powerplay, CSK spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Mitchell Santner rattled MI’s middle-order with peach of deliveries, as the Men in Blue collapsed from 64/1 in 6.3 overs to 76/5 in 9.1 overs.

CSK bowlers took four wickets for the span of 12 runs. Suryakumar Yadav continued his poor run as he was dismissed for just one run. Handy cameos from lower-order batters helped MI post a manageable total of 157/8 in 20 overs. Tim David scored a 22-ball 31 that included three boundaries.

For CSK, Ravindra Jadeja bowled a brilliant spell of 3/20 in his four overs. In response to 157, CSK lost Devon Conway in the first over courtesy of Jason Behrendorff, who cleaned him up for a duck with lethal bowling display. Coming in at number three, Ajinkya Rahane went bonkers against the MI bowlers, smashing the fastest fifty of Indian Premier League 2023 in just 19 balls.

He was ably supported by in-form Ruturaj Gaikwad as the duo added 82 runs for the second wicket. Rahane amassed 61 runs from 27 balls that included ten boundaries. Piyush Chawla broke the partnership by dismissing Rahane. Shivam Dube then joined Gaikwad on the field and they added 43 runs for the third wicket. Gaikwad and Rayudu finished the proceedings with an unbeaten 34-run stand to help CSK beat MI by 7 wickets.

19 -Ajinkya Rahane smashed the fastest fifty of IPL 2023, achieving the feat in just 19 deliveries, bettering the previous best set by Shardul Thakur and Jos Buttler.

2 -Ajinkya Rahane smashed the joint-second fastest fifty by a CSK player in IPL along with Moeen Ali. Suresh Raina tops the list with 16-ball fifty against PBKS back from 2014.

3 -Ambati Rayudu (326) surpassed Badrinath and became the third leading run scorer for CSK against MI in IPL. Suresh Raina takes the first spot with 710 runs and MS Dhoni is in second spot with 653 runs.

3 -Ajinkya Rahane smashed the third fastest IPL fifty against MI. Pat Cummins smashed in 14 balls, followed by Rishabh Pant who smashed an 18-ball fifty against MI in 2018.
