Mumbai cricketer Sarfaraz Khan has been ruled out of the upcoming Irani Cup 2023, which is scheduled to commence from March 1 in Gwalior. It will be played between Madhya Pradesh, winners of the 2021-22 Ranji Trophy, and the Rest of India, which comprises players from the Ranji teams of various states.
Sarfaraz Khan was in blistering form in the recently concluded Ranji Trophy. He was striking centuries at will and owning records with ease. The 25-year-old had a stupendous Ranji season with Mumbai, scoring 556 runs with a 90-plus average and three centuries. Since the 2019-20 season, the right-handed batter has accumulated a mammoth 2970 runs from 26 matches (12 centuries, seven half-centuries) at an astounding average of 106.07. His First-Class average of 79.65 after 54 innings is only second to Don Bradman (95.14).
Although he got many to think of a possible break for him in the national side, the wait got extended after the right-handed batsman was ignored for the Boder-Gavaskar Trophy.
Sarfaraz Khan undergoes rehabilitation at Delhi Capitals camp in Kolkata
Sarfaraz Khan had injured his finger while playing in the DY Patil Cup, as reported by Sportstar. He has now joined and is recuperating in the pre-season camp of the Delhi Capitals, in Kolkata. There he could be seen nursing an injury and sporting a protective fibre around his injured finger while helping his teammates with drinks. He didn’t take the field to play.
“Sarfaraz suffered the injury on his right finger while doing ‘keeper duties for DY Patil B’ in a match during the DY Patil Cup. He picked up the injury while collecting a throw from teammate Yash Dhull. He will be out of action for 10 days. He is currently recuperating at the pre-season Delhi Capitals camp in Kolkata,” a source close to Sarfaraz Khan was quoted as saying.
The Delhi Capitals camp in Kolkata is being supervised by Saurav Ganguly himself, who repatriated to his old franchise as the Director of Cricket.
