The 15th game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 proved to be an all-time classic as Royal Challengers Bangalore took on the KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Monday, April 10.
Batting first, Bangalore posted 212 runs on the board. It was thanks to the explosive knocks by ace Indian batter Virat Kohli, skipper Faf du Plessis, and Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, that throttled Bangalore to a mammoth total on the board.
However, despite their knocks, the match turned out to be a humdinger after Nicholas Pooran played a sensational knock for Lucknow down the order in the second innings. As the visitors required one run to win off the last ball, Harshal Patel had the opportunity to run Ravi Bishnoi out; however, the 32-year-old missed clipping the bails, and as the ball was replayed, Lucknow won the game after running the final run.
Speaking about the same, skipper Faf du Plessis came forward to express his disappointment on the matter. “Disappointed. They played well through the middle. One ball, one run. We backed ourselves to get a run-out,” Faf said after the game.
They took on one of our stronger bowlers right away: Du Plessis
Continuing upon the same, Faf opined that he threw everything the side had at Lucknow, but it still proved not enough in the end. The 38-year-old also talked about the nature of the pitch in the last five overs of the match.
“I think just looking at that wicket, the batting from overs 7 to 14 was quite slow, the wicket, but then in the last five overs the ball was coming on nicely, and that carried on in the second innings. I threw all our weapons we had at them. Unfortunately, they took on one of our stronger bowlers right away, Harshal, in his first two overs, but he came back well,” Du Plessis concluded.
