Former India cricketer Yusuf Pathan feels that Sunrisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) new signing Adil Rashid will be their key player in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL). Rashid was bought by SRH for INR 2 crore in the latest player auction. He has played an important role in the Jos Buttler-led England team’s ICC T20 World Cup success last year.

Pathan, the former SRH player, said that Rashid is an excellent bowler who can bowl the new ball too. He also said that the England cricketer is the right choice for bowling middle and death overs. The 40-year-old further said that Rashid will play a new role for the 2016 champions in the IPL 2023.

“Adil Rashid, the quality of spin bowling that he brings to the table. He has been excellent for England also and he is a wonderful wicket-taking bowler. Plus, he can bowl with the new ball too. He can bowl in the middle overs and in the death overs too! We will see him play a new role now”, Pathan said on Star Sports.

SRH had a terrible season in the 2022 IPL edition as they finished third from the bottom on the points table with 12 points, winning only six of their 14 matches. However, they are hoping to clinch their second IPL title as they have made a lot of changes in their upcoming IPL squad. Notably, they have named the in-form South Africa batter Aiden Markram as their new skipper.

Alongside the Proteas cricketer, SRH made some interesting additions, signing English player Harry Brook and India’s Mayank Agarwal. The England batter was acquired for a whopping INR 13.25 crores while Mayank was roped in for ₹8.25 crores. SRH will kickstart their IPL 2023 campaign against last year’s runner-up Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on April 2.
