New Zealand’s star all-rounder Amelia Kerr, who has already established herself as one of the most sought-after cricketers in the world, is relishing her dream of playing in the inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League. One of the star performers of Mumbai Indians’ campaign so far, Kerr also showered praise on her skipper Harmanpreet Kaur.

Amelia Kerr burst onto the scene for New Zealand after smashing a record-breaking 232 off just 145 deliveries in an ODI against Ireland, aged just 17, becoming the youngest cricketer to breach the 200-run mark. She followed up her magnificent batting performance with a brilliant five-for in the second innings of the very same match.

The 22-year-old wasted no time in leaving her mark in the inaugural edition of the WPL and has been one of the key performers for her side in the competition. A childhood fan of the IPL, Kerr expressed her delight in being part of the illustrious competition.

“It is awesome. Growing up watching the men’s IPL, I remember saying one day I want to play there,” Kerr said on her experience of playing in the WPL to The Hindu.

It’s nice to have the opportunity to play alongside Harmanpreet Kaur: Kerr

The Wellington-born cricketer, who has often come face to face against her Mumbai Indians’ skipper Harmanpreet Kaur in international cricket, praised the Indian skipper for her leadership qualities. She acknowledged the calming influence the Indian all-rounder has on her teammates in the dressing room as well as on the pitch.

“It’s nice to have the opportunity to play alongside her. She is amazing. She has destroyed a lot of teams with her batting, and she has gone out there and done the same in the tournament. She is a great leader. When she walks into the changing room all the young idolise her and look up to her. She has a very calm way and builds confidence in your game,” she added.
