Ruturaj Gaikwad continued his solid form as he struck his second half-century (57 off 31) while Moeen Ali registered his best figures (4/26) as Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 12 on April 4. Gaikwad’s opening partner Devon Conway also smashed 47 off 29 as the duo put on 110 runs for the opening wicket, eventually helping their side in reaching a massive total of 217/7.
Skipper KL Rahul won the toss and opted to field first as action finally returned to Chepauk after a gap of four years. CSK openers put on a solid stand of above 100 runs as they laid the platform for others. Ambati Rayudu played a cameo of 27 off 14 while captain MS Dhoni struck two sixes in his short innings of 12 off three. Ravi Bishnoi was the pick of the LSG bowers for his superb spell of 3/28 (4).
Chasing a huge target of 218, Rahul got dismissed for just 20 while Deepak Hooda and Krunal Pandya managed to score only two and nine runs, respectively. Kyle Mayers smashed his second consecutive half-century as he got out for a well-made 53 off just 22, which included eight fours and two maximums. Nicholas Pooran amassed 32 off 18 but it was not enough as LSG left it too late to achieve the target. Moeen picked up crucial scalps of Rahul, Mayers, Krunal, and Marcus Stoinis as he won the Player of the Match award.
