Rajasthan Royals (RR) have secured the final in the Indian Premier League (IPL), one of the popular franchise leagues, defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the second eliminator match. With 11 balls in hand in the devastating batting of Jos Buttler, they crossed the target given by RCB easily. The English wicketkeeper-batsman was unbeaten on 106 off 60 balls.
According to RR director and former Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara, no one in IPL history has batted like Buttler. Regarding Buttler’s place of strength, Sangakkara said, “There is some kind of strength in the way he plays. When he gets confidence everywhere, he forces the bowlers to bowl there.”
Sangakkara added, ”He is great against spin. Can play all kinds of shots. He decides which shots will play one day and which ones will not. The best thing about Jos Buttler is that he can make quick runs at any time. It is seen that he is batting for 30 runs from 30 balls, then it can be seen that he will make 80-90 off 50 balls. It’s hard to explain what he’s done for us this season. Has made a very good start to the tournament. After that, maybe he lost a little bit of rhythm but he was calm. He not only practiced but also talked to everyone about them. He is a human after all; he will not be able to perform at the top level every day.”
Considering the situation of the match, Buttler is unparallel in batting. Sangakkara thinks that this quality of his sets him apart from others. He said, “If you want to understand how he bats at that level at different stages of all the matches … some days you have to fight to run, the batting is ugly. Someday it will be in momentum again. The reality is that it is not possible to fight against the condition. Fighting is possible only where what is happening on the field. The innings have to be settled. He can make quick runs at any time. He has all kinds of shots in his hand and understands the game very well. I don’t remember anyone in the history of IPL batting so well.”
