IPL Auction 2021 Updates: A new name but the goal remains the same

Auction for the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was held in Chennai on Thursday, February 18. For the Covid-19 situation, eight franchises participated in the auction in compliance with the rules of participating. 298 players were selected for this pool. 57 players among them have been sold at the auction.

Each franchise can form a team of 18 to 25 players where a maximum of 8 overseas players can be kept in each team. Also, franchisees will be able to spend a maximum of Rs. 85 crores to organize their teams. Like every time, the franchises have tried to strengthen their teams. Punjab Kings

Kings XI Punjab franchise has changed their name to Punjab Kings this time. They have made up their team with 25 players. However, this time Punjab has bought Jhye Richardson and Riley Meredith as the fourth and sixth most expensive players in the IPL auction respectively. They have purchased Jhye Richardson for Rs. 14 crores and Riley Meredith for Rs. 8 crores.

Punjab retained 16 players from the old squad and released 9 before the auction. As a result, 5 slots were made for buying overseas players. They had Rs. 53.20 crores existing on their hand, and they have bought nine new players at the auction for Rs. 34.40 crores. Where there are five foreign players. They are Jhye Richardson of Australia, Riley Meredith of Australia, Moises Henriques of Australia and Dawid Malan of England, and Fabian Allen of the West Indies. Punjab still has Rs 18.80 crores left on their purse.

Shahrukh Khan – 5.25 crore

Moises Henriques (Australia) – 4.2 crore

Dawid Malan (England) – 1.5 crore

Jalaj Saxena – 0.3 crore

Saurabh Kumar – 0.2 crore

Utkarsh Singh – 0.2 crore

The names of the retained players: Lokesh Rahul, Mayank Agarwal, Nicholas Pooran, Ravi Bishnoi, Chris Jordan, Chris Gayle, Mohammad Shami, Deepak Hooda, Mandeep Singh, Prabhsimran Singh, Sarfaraz Khan, Arshdeep Singh, Darshan Nalkande, Harpreet Brar, Murugan Ashwin and Ishan Porel.
