KKR vs GT Match Highlights
Gujarat Titans (GT) have got a thrilling 8-run win over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Saturday in the 35th match of IPL 2022. As a result, KKR has got defeated for the 4th time in a row.
After winning the toss, GT captain Hardik Pandya decided to bat first and sent KKR to the field. GT did not have a good start after coming down to bat first. Shubman Gill (7 off 5 balls) returned to the dressing room when the team’s score was 8 runs. However, on the second wicket, Hardik overcame the pressure by building up a pair of 75 off 56 balls with Wriddhiman Saha.
Wriddhiman was dismissed for 25 off 25 balls. David Miller and Pandya then added 50 runs off 35 balls. After playing an innings of 27 runs off 20 balls, Miller returned to the dressing room in the 17th over and their tie was broken. In the next over, devastating Pandya also returned to the pavilion with 4 boundaries and 2 sixes, he scored 67 runs off 49 balls. Rashid Khan, who raised a storm in the previous match, got out without getting a single run in this match.
Coming to bowl in the last over, Andre Russell took 4 wickets for 5 runs, and the match came under the control of KKR. In the first ball of the over, he dismissed Abhinav Manohar (2). Lockie Ferguson (0) returned to the dressing room with the next ball. Alzarri Joseph took one run in the third ball. Rahul Tewatia hit a boundary in the fourth ball. However, with his next ball, Russell showed him the way to the dressing room. Yash Dayal (0) was caught in the last ball of the innings.
In the end, GT was able to score 156 runs for the loss of 9 wickets thanks to Tewatia’s innings of 17 runs from 12 balls. For KKR, another fast bowler Tim Southee took 3 wickets for 24 runs in 4 overs. Besides, Umesh Yadav and Shivam Mavi took one wicket each.
Chasing the challenging target of 157 runs, KKR lost 3 batsmen Sam Billings (4), Sunil Narine (5), and Nitish Rana (2) for 16 runs. Captain Shreyas Iyer (12 off 15 balls) also followed their path at the team’s 34 runs.
In the middle, Rinku Singh started showing some good batting skills but was dismissed for 35 off 28 balls. KKR lost 6 wickets for 98 runs and dropped out of the match. All-rounder Russell stood strong in such a condition and batted incredibly. He kept the match alive till the last over by heating the field with big sixes.
KKR needed 18 runs in the last over to win. Russell made it easy by hitting a six off Joseph’s first ball. But the Caribbean all-rounder was caught by Ferguson at the boundary after trying to pull the second ball for a six. Russell returned to the pavilion after playing an innings of 48 off 25 balls with 1 four and 6 sixes. KKR’s innings ended at 148 runs after losing 8 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
For GT, Rashid Khan, Mohammed Shami, and Yash Dayal took the highest number of two wickets each. Joseph and Ferguson also took one wicket each.
Gujarat Titans topped the points table with 6 wins and 1 loss in 7 matches. On the other hand, Kolkata Knight Riders are now in 7th position with 3 wins and 5 losses playing 8 matches.
