GT vs CSK Match Highlights
Gujarat Titans (GT) has defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by one wicket in the second match of the IPL 2022 doubleheader at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on Sunday. After winning the toss, GT’s acting captain Rashid Khan decided to bowl first sending CSK to bat first.
CSK didn’t start well after proceeding down to bat, and they could make only 7 runs in the first two overs. Mohammed Shami trapped Robin Uthappa (3) in an lbw in the second ball of the third over.
However, Ruturaj Gaikwad was trying to keep the run wheel moving. CSK lost another important batsman Moeen Ali (1) in the fifth over of the innings. Alzarri Joseph bowled Moeen.
Then Ruturaj formed a great partnership with Ambati Rayudu. As a result, CSK picked up 100 runs in 12 overs. On the third wicket, these two batsmen added 92 runs off 56 balls to the scoreboard, and Rayudu hit 46 off 31 balls before becoming the second victim of Joseph.
After one over, Ruturaj also returned to the dressing room. The opener was caught trying to hit Yash Dayal. He played a stormy innings of 73 off 48 balls with 5 fours and 5 sixes.
Then Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja made a partnership of 38 runs from 22 balls. As a result, CSK lost 5 wickets and collected a fighting score of 169 runs. Dube was run out for 19 off 17 balls in the last ball of the innings. Captain Jadeja remained unbeaten on 22 runs off 12 balls with 2 sixes.
Alzarri Joseph took the maximum number of 2 wickets for GT. Besides, Yash Dayal and Mohammed Shami took 1 wicket each.
GT lost 3 wickets for 16 runs to chase the challenging target of 170 runs. After the end of 8 overs, their score stood at 48 runs for 4 wickets. Then in the 5th wicket, David Miller and Rahul Tewatia wanted to bring the team back on track by making 39 run-partnership. But when Tewatia (6) returned to the dressing room for the team’s 87 runs, GT started to drop out of the match. Even then the team needed 83 runs from 44 balls to win.
Then captain Rashid Khan came to the wicket. He made a great partnership of 70 off 37 balls for the 6th wicket with Miller. When the team required 48 runs from 18 balls to win, the Afghan all-rounder Rashid, who led GT due to Hardik Pandya’s injury, batted like a Tsunami in the 18th over that was bowled by Jordan. He smashed 3 over-boundaries and a boundary in that over.
He also hit a boundary in the first ball of the next over off Dwayne Bravo. Rashid was dismissed for 40 off 21 balls in Bravo’s fifth ball of that over. In this dramatic match, the drama continued in the last over as well. GT needed 13 runs in that over from Chris Jordan, and Miller could not take the run in the first two balls. He hit a six in the third ball of that over.
Miller was caught in the short third-man to hit the fourth ball. But as seen in the replay, the ball was above his waist. As a result, the umpire called a ‘No Ball’. The batter did not make a mistake in lifting the boundary in free-hit, and he finished the match by running for doubles on the very next ball. Miller remained unbeaten on 94 off 51 balls with 8 fours and 6 sixes.
After winning this match, Gujarat Titans have risen to the top of the points table. On the other hand, Chennai Super Kings are now in 9th place in the points table after losing.
