The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is going to start with ten teams. The tournament started in 2008 with eight teams from eight cities across India and was held with ten teams in 2011 only. After almost 11 years, ten teams will be seen in IPL 2022 again. And, one of the best franchises of this competition is the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) from South India.
One of the main reasons why CSK is called is that they have participated in the IPL final nine times in the history of IPL so far and have won the title four times. It’s worth mentioning that this franchise tries to build up the team with previous players every year and it is the only team in the IPL that has been playing under a single captain since 2008.
CSK is currently owned by Chennai Super Kings Cricket Limited and India Cements is also a major stakeholder. And so far the only captain of the team since 2008 is the famous Captain Cool – Mahendra Singh Dhoni. This time again in the mega auction this franchise has tried to retain their previous team.
The CSK franchise has made a squad of 25 players this time where they already have retained 4 players earlier. They are MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, Ruturaj Gaikwad (local), and Moeen Ali (overseas). They have added 21 new players to the team from the auction. But apart from those 4 retained players, Chennai Super Kings have also included 9 players from the previous 2021 squad in the squad of 2022.
CSK has included 10 players from the 2021 list of local players in the squad for 2022 (including 3 retained players). On the other hand, CSK has again included 3 players in the team from the list of overseas players of the last edition of the tournament (including 1 retained player).
However, CSK did not include Suresh Raina and Faf du Plessis in the squad, who were part of CSK from the beginning. They also have a number of veteran cricketers in their squad, such as MS Dhoni, Robin Uthappa, Ambati Rayudu, Dwayne Bravo etc. They are playing their best for the team so far as well. As a result, Chennai Super Kings became the champions last season. In their honour, CSK has again arranged a team with all these veteran players.
The screening of IPL 2022 is going to start on March 26 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. In the opening match, last year’s champions Chennai Super Kings and runners-up Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will face each other.
