Injury rules out Jofra Archer from all competitive cricket for the rest of the year

Jofra Archer, England fast bowler has been ruled out of all forms of cricket in 2021 due to an elbow injury. The injury came back for the second time in his right elbow. Therefore, Archer will not be seen in the forthcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2021 as well as in the Ashes 2021-22 against Australia.

Archer first missed the tour of South Africa in 2020 due to this injury. Since then, the 26-year-old fast bowler has played only six Tests, three ODIs, and 11 T20Is.

Archer returned home from the last tour of India with the injury. Then he removed his name from the IPL 2021. Surgery was also performed to remove bone remnants from the hand. Archer also returned to competitive cricket for his county team Sussex after rehabilitation. He was sent for another scan after feeling pain and discomfort while bowling there.

It was seen on the scan that the injury of his right elbow is back. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has said that they will not consider Archer again this year.

As a result, the 2019 World Cup-winning pacer will not be able to play in the ongoing five-match Test series against India, then the T20 World Cup 2021, and the Ashes 2021-22. However, the ECB said Archer’s injury is not related to his surgery. For now, he will take a break from cricket and be under the surveillance of doctors.

Although he is still young in age, Archer’s future career has fallen into another phase of uncertainty. Due to this injury, Archer has the possibility to choose only limited-overs cricket in the future. He has not been in most of England’s matches this season. However, his absence for this time again has come as an additional shock for England.
