India has won the first six editions of the Women’s Asia Cup consecutively. Bangladesh women stopped this single reign of Indian women. Bangladesh won the Asia Cup in 2018. But India regained superiority in the eighth edition. They beat Sri Lanka in Sylhet on Saturday and took home the title of this season.
Sri Lankan captain Chamari Atapattu won the toss and decided to bat first. However, the team’s batsmen completely failed to make the captain’s decision successful. The team’s first six batsmen returned to the dressing room before touching double figures. Sri Lanka was able to get 65 runs for 9 wickets in the end due to Indian bowling aggression.
In response to a simple target, India confirmed the win. Smriti Mandhana attacked the Lankan bowlers with the bat in the opening. Thanks to her innings of 51 runs, India reached the target in just 8.3 overs. In the final, the man of the match award went to India’s Renuka Singh who took 3 wickets.
Meanwhile, Deepti Sharma won the player of the tournament award. This Indian all-rounder has spread light throughout the tournament. The right-hander took the highest 13 wickets of the tournament in offspring. Apart from this, the 25-year-old Indian, who bats right-handed, scored 94 runs.
