The Indian captain and the player known as Hitman, Rohit Sharma becomes the player, who has played the most number of matches in the history of T20I cricket. The 34-year-old batsman touched the milestone in the third and final T20I match of the series against Sri Lanka at Dharamsala yesterday. He has played 125 T20I matches for India so far.
Earlier, the record was held by former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik. He played 124 International T20I matches for his country. Hitman Rohit Sharma is currently also the highest run-getter in the T20Is.
Rohit started the just-concluded T20I series against Sri Lanka with a great note. He became the highest run-getter in T20Is, surpassing Virat Kohli (3296 runs) and Martin Guptill (3299 runs). In the first match of the series in Lucknow, the Indian captain achieved this milestone by scoring 44 off 32 balls.
Rohit Sharma, one of the best batsmen of the modern era, made his T20I debut for Team India against England in Durban in the inaugural match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2007 fixture.
The young Rohit played a valuable innings of unbeaten 30 off 16 balls for India in the final match of that tournament. That innings helped the Indian team to get a victory by five runs against Pakistan in Johannesburg. Rohit also holds the record for most centuries scored in T20Is. This devastating batsman has scored four centuries in T20Is so far which no other player has been able to do.
Since taking over the responsibility of captaincy from Virat Kohli last November, Rohit has had a bit of an exceptional time at bat and as captain. India looks strong and confident under captain Rohit. At the same time, Indian fans will hope that the team can maintain its winning streak and win the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 also.
