Greg Berkeley, President of the International Cricket Council (ICC), the highest governing body of cricket, is visiting Bangladesh today without any specific reason. There is no particular schedule for his visit to Bangladesh this time. During the visit, Greg will observe the infrastructural developments of Bangladesh cricket. He is also scheduled to watch the second match of the Test series between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

Speaking to reporters, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Cricket Operations Committee Chairman Jalal Yunus said no specific reason. Still, the board would discuss a number of issues with him. He said, ”There is no reason (for this visit). Will come for a day, stay, there is nothing to ask for. This is a courtesy call. He may visit some infrastructure like Sheikh Hasina International Stadium (under construction in Purbachal); you will see it. There will be some discussion. We have dinner with him. On the 23rd, he will watch the game for the first hour or so. ”

Bangladesh Cricket Board President Nazmul Hasan Papon said about the arrival of Berkeley, “The ICC chief will go to India to watch the IPL final after visiting Bangladesh. He has shown interest in coming to Bangladesh before. We also welcomed him, and he was not coming with an agenda. It’s a very formal visit, and there is no specific reason. We will discuss various issues.”

Initially, the ICC President would visit India to watch the Indian Premier League (IPL), a popular cricket franchise. Before that, he is going on a short one-day tour of Bangladesh. India’s Shashank Manohar resigned as ICC president in 2020. Imran Khwaja, then head of the Singapore Cricket Board, was interim president. Barclays, a lawyer by profession, then joined the ICC as president. His term ends in November this year. Before that, he was the New Zealand Cricket Board director in 2012.
