It’s been a few days since Russell Domingo resigned as the coach of Bangladesh. Since his resignation, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has been searching for a head coach. To be the head coach of the Tigers, several names were also submitted to the BCB. However, board president Nazmul Hasan Papon and others wanted to bring back Chandika Hathurusingha. But despite agreeing to take responsibility, this Lankan coach is not coming to Bangladesh in the end.
The appointment of Hathurusingha as the head coach is one of the topics discussed in Tiger Cricket for the past few days. It is said that there has been a discussion between the two parties in this regard. Hathurusingha has also expressed interest in working with the Tigers, agreeing to BCB’s offer. Only the signing of the contract was to be done and an official announcement by the BCB was left pending.
According to BCB sources, Hathurusingha has also continued discussions with the New South Wales Cricket Academy in Australia in addition to discussions with BCB. . There was a rumour that he has increased the facilities there. In this regard, a BCB official told the media on the condition of anonymity, “At the last moment, Hathursinghe turned around. He suddenly said that he will not come. He probably does not want to stay in his current job. I do not know what is the secret of his not coming.”
Meanwhile, if Hathurusingha does not come in the end and becomes Team Bangladesh’s coach, BCB will have to step on the alternative path. But finding a head coach for the team will not be easy. In that case, BCB has an easy option, Sridharan Sriram. Bangladesh can make this Indian coach the head coach of the white ball. But so far nothing has been officially announced by BCB.
If Sriram is offered an offer by BCB, chances are high that he will agree. He has experience working with the Bangladesh team before this. Although at that time he worked as a technical consultant for the T20 team. If he becomes the head coach, Bangladesh will play the ODI World Cup under him this year. But the board wants someone reliable for Team Bangladesh.
