Hamstring injury drives Shakib Al Hasan ruled out of the ongoing ICC T20 WC 2021

The world’s best all-rounder and Bangladeshi star player, Shakib Al Hasan has been ruled out of the remainder of ICC T20 World Cup 2021 due to a hamstring injury. Bangladesh team is not getting him in the remaining two matches of Super 12. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed the matter in a press release yesterday evening.

Shakib got injured while fielding in Bangladesh’s last match against West Indies in Sharjah. After leaving the field for a while, the left-arm all-rounder bowled four overs back on the field. Later he got injured and went down to bat in the opening and returned to the dressing room just scoring 9 runs. After keeping Shakib under observation period for 48 hours, the medical staff of the team decided to rule him out of the tournament.

Regarding Shakib’s injury, team doctor Debashis Chowdhury said in the statement that Shakib sustained a left lower hamstring injury while playing against West Indies, and his injury was diagnosed as Grade 1 intensity. Debashis Chowdhury further disclosed that the all-rounder will be ruled out of the last two games of the tournament and until further review.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Nurul Hasan is also battling with injury. He was rested for the match against West Indies due to injury. The opportunity of getting Nurul against South Africa is also slim. In this regard, Debashis Chowdhury said that Nurul has been given complete rest till November 1. After reviewing his condition, a decision will be made about playing the match.

Not only that, there is no player to replace Shakib Al Hasan in the squad because BCB kept experienced pacer Rubel Hossain as the only player in reserve. He has already been included in the squad due to the injury of pace-bowling all-rounder Mohammad Saifuddin. Therefore, it is not possible to add any new players to the team as there are no more players in the reserve.

Bangladesh has lost all of the three matches in the Super 12. The Tigers will play their 4th match against South Africa tomorrow. Then they will face Australia in their last Super 12’s match on November 4.
