GT vs RR Match Highlights
Gujarat Titans (GT) has won the IPL 2022 final by 7 wickets with 11 balls to spare against captain Rajasthan Cricket (RR) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday thanks to captain Hardik Pandya’s superb all-round performance. At the same time, the extraordinary GT team has picked up the title of the 15th edition in their debut season.
After winning the toss, RR captain Sanju Samson decided to bat and sent GT to bowl first. RR fell under pressure from the beginning in the controlled bowling of GT’s bowlers. In the fourth over, opener Yashsvi Jaswal (22 off 18 balls) was trying to hit a six after hitting one and was caught at mid-wicket by Yash Dayal.
Jos Buttler hit two fours in a row to Lockie Ferguson in the seventh over after scoring 44 runs in 6 overs of Powerplay, But Rajasthan then fell into captivity. They scored only two boundaries in 7 overs(8th to 14th). At this time, GT captain Pandya sent off RR captain Samson to the dressing room. He made 14 off 11 balls and got caught out trying to hit a good length delivery.
After that, Rashid Khan dismissed Devdutt Padikkal for just 2 runs off 10 balls. However, Pandya picked up the wicket of Buttler and gave a big push to RR’s camp. Buttler, the highest run-scorer of the tournament, returned to the pavilion with 39 off 35 balls in the first ball of the 13th over.
RR came under pressure after Buttler’s departure. Pandya hit a blow into the RR camp again at the end of the 15th over. This time his victim was Shimron Hetmyer (11 off 12 balls). In the next over, RR dropped out of the match when Ravichandran Ashwin (6) was dismissed for 98 runs.
In the end, RR was able to score 130 runs losing 9 wickets in 20 overs due to regular wicket tumblings. Riyan Parag scored 15, Trent Boult 11, and Obed McCoy added 8 for the team. Hardik Pandya took 3 wickets for just 17 runs in 4 overs for GT. Besides, Sai Kishore took 2 wickets and Rashid Khan, Yash Dayal and Mohammed Shami took 1 wicket each.
GT did not get too much speed to chase the easy target of 131 runs. They were very controlled in bowling as well as in batting. Although Wriddhiman Saha and Matthew Wade lost their wickets for just the team’s 9 and 23 runs respectively, GT went to the back foot, but Shubman Gill and Pandya did not give any chance to make the RR bowlers happy.
The duo put together a remarkable 63-run stand for the 3rd wicket. This pair basically eliminated the fear of being knocked out of the match for GT. Pandya scored 34 off 30 balls with 3 boundaries and 1 six. After taking 3 wickets with the ball, he made 34 runs with the bat. It was a perfect all-around performance and a Captain’s Knock.
After Pandya was dismissed at the team’s 86 runs, David Miller teamed up with Shubman. He raised a storm with the bat. He hit 3 boundaries and 1 six. He scored an unbeaten 32 off 19 balls. Shubman started the victory celebrations by hitting a six off the first ball of the 19th over to Obed McCoy.
Gujarat Titans lost just 3 wickets in 18.1 overs and won the crown of the IPL championship in their debut season. Shubman Gill was unbeaten scoring 45 off 43 balls. He also hit a six with 3 boundaries. Trent Boult took 1 wicket conceding only 14 runs in 4 overs for RR. Besides, Yuzvendra Chahal and Prasidh Krishna took 1 wicket each.
A new IPL franchise has lifted the trophy after Sunrisers Hyderabad did in 2016. Rajasthan Royals was the first team to win the title as a debutant team in 2008 and Gujarat Titans have made it happen now.
