GT vs MI Match Highlights

Mumbai Indians (MI), who are at the bottom of the standing, took an incredible 5-run win over the points table-toppers Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Brabourne-CCI Stadium in Mumbai on Friday in the 51st match of IPL 2022. With that, MI has got the 2nd consecutive victory.

After winning the toss, GT captain Hardik Pandya decided to bowl and sent MI to bat first. Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan gave MI a flying start. They made 74 runs in the opening partnership off 45 balls. Rashid Khan broke the tie by getting Rohit’s wicket with an lbw, who scored 43 off 28 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes.

Suryakumar Yadav gave some hint of raising a storm with the bat when he hit a six over the fine leg off Ferguson. However, he returned to the dressing room in the eleventh over of the innings scoring just 13 runs off 11 balls. Ishan Kishan also fell victim to Alzarri Joseph in the next over. MI’s opener (45 off 29 balls) was at the doorstep of the half-century.

Rashid Khan then bowled Kieron Pollard (4 off 14 balls), who was a bit shaky on the day. MI lost 4 wickets for 119 runs. From there, Tilak Varma and Tim David took the team a long way in the fifth wicket. These two batsmen made an effective pair of 37 runs from 21 balls. Where they have scored 35 runs in the last 3 overs.

Tilak (21 off 16 balls) was run out in the 19th over and returned to the dressing room. Daniel Sams returned to the dressing room after being victimized by Ferguson before opening the scoring book. But in the end, thanks to the great batting of Tim David, MI was able to collect a fighting capital of 177 runs. The batsman played a devastating innings of 44 off 21 balls with 2 fours and 4 sixes.

For GT, Rashid Khan took the maximum number of 2 wickets for 24 runs in 4 overs. Pradeep Sangwan, Lockie Ferguson, and Alzarri Joseph also took one wicket each.

Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill’s pair got off to a great start making a half-century both as they came down to chase a challenging target of 178 runs. In the opening partnership, they scored 106 runs from 73 balls. Wriddhiman scored 55 off 40 balls and Gill 52 off 36 balls. Where both the batsmen hit the same number of 6 fours and 2 sixes.

After that, Sai Sudharsan could not make his innings big. He got out by hit wicket on Pollard’s ball and returned to the dressing room making 14 runs off 11 balls. On the other hand, captain Hardik Pandia also returned to the pavilion after being run out for 24 off 14 balls.

In the end, David Miller and Rahul Tewatia tried to take the helm of the team but could not give a proper finish to the team. 20 runs were needed in the last two overs. Miller made the calculation easier by hitting a six in Jasprit Bumrah’s over. They needed 9 runs in the last over to get the victory.

But GT could take only 3 runs in that over of Daniel Sams. The last two balls would have been a six. Miller was on strike but could not connect the ball with the bat. As a result, GT’s innings came to a halt at 172 for 5 wickets with staying away from just five runs.

Protea batsman Miller left the field with 19 runs off 14 balls. For MI, Murugan Ashwin took the maximum number of 2 wickets with 29 runs in 4 overs. Kieron Pollard also took 1 wicket.

Despite getting 2 consecutive victories, Mumbai Indians are at the bottom of the points table with 2 wins and 8 losses in 10 matches. On the other hand, the Gujarat Titans still hold the top spot with 8 wins and 3 losses in 11 matches.
