India beat England in the final match of the ODI series between India and England women cricketers at Lord’s. But Deepti’s ‘mankading’ in that match comes into discussion. This time, former Pakistani cricketer Mohammad Asif got into trouble for commenting on this ‘mankading’.
India scored 169 runs in the last match of the series. England started batting with a target of 170 runs. England had reached the threshold of victory. They needed 17 runs in the last 7 overs to win. But just then the non-striker Shirley Dean came out of the crease before Deepti left the ball.
Realizing the opportunity, Deepti hit the wicket with the ball. Dean got out. And after that the discussion-criticism started. Although now this out has been included as a run out by the law-making body of cricket.
And after this ‘mankading’, there was a storm of discussion and criticism. Former Pakistani pacer Asif also joined this list. He tweeted calling Deepti a cheater. Asif wrote, “ We can see it clearly there is no intention of bowling the ball, she is looking towards non striker batter to cheat him. This is very unfair & terrible act worst spirit.”
The former Pak pacer is now in trouble after tweeting this. Asif had to go to jail for fixing in 2010. Responding to the chastened pacer’s tweet, many Indians wrote, “Fixer speaks for consciousness. There is a limit to fun.” Another wrote, “The cricketer who cheated his country for a few bucks is talking like a gentleman. Bro are you okay?”
Discussion and criticism about this controversial out do not stop. Even England’s test captain Ben Stokes has opened up about this out. Earlier, India’s star spinner Ashwin also faced criticism for dismissing in this way.
