He has coached in domestic cricket of India. This time Manoj Prabhakar is going abroad for coaching. He is the new coach of the Nepal cricket team. He replaces Sri Lankan Pubudu Dassanayake. Dassanayake is going to join as Canada’s coach.
Prabhakar played 39 Tests and 130 ODIs for India from 1984 to 1996. He has coached Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh in domestic cricket. He was the bowling coach during Delhi’s Ranji Trophy win in 2008.
Prabhakar joined Afghanistan as bowling coach in 2015. He was also involved with the Afghanistan team in the 2016 T20 World Cup. Afghanistan defeated a strong team like West Indies in that competition. Their bowling led by Rashid Khan was praised.
Joining the Nepal team, Prabhakar said, “Interest and enthusiasm about Nepal cricket is increasing. Their cricketers are also becoming skilled day by day. Eagerly waiting to train young cricketers. I want to make Nepal a strong team.”
Nepal is currently playing in League 2 of the ICC Cricket World Cup. They are second from the bottom. They won eight matches but lost seven matches. However, they played well in the 2022 T20 World Cup qualifiers. In the semi-finals, however, they lost to the United Arab Emirates.
