England tour to Bangladesh this year will be postponed to 2023

The England team was scheduled to go to Bangladesh to play three ODIs and three T20Is in September-October 2021. But now, the England cricket team will visit Bangladesh in March 2023, which is 18 months later than the pre-scheduled one.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said this in an official statement on Tuesday afternoon. The statement said the decision was taken based on an agreement with the cricket boards of the two countries.

It was also informed that the two teams would play three ODIs and T20Is in that tour. The matches will be played at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka and Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong. As the England series was finally postponed, the New Zealand series will be Bangladesh’s last series before the T20I World Cup 2021 in the United Arab Emirates and Oman.

The UAE will host 29 IPL matches from September 19, and the England team was supposed to visit Bangladesh. This seems to be the main reason the series was postponed because the rest of the postponed IPL 2021 will start in September.

However, the England and Wales Cricket Board had earlier said the cricketers would play a bilateral series instead of the IPL 2021. But due to pressure from the Indian Cricket Board, the ECB is moving away from that position.

England last visited Bangladesh in 2016. Bangladesh last toured England in 2010 for a bilateral series.
