Covid-19 has already hit worries in the ongoing Ashes series in Australia. This time England head coach Chris Silverwood has also tested positive for Covid-19. Earlier, he was sent to 10-day isolation due to close contact with a Covid-19 infected family member. That’s why he has been ruled out of the England squad for the Sydney Test.
As all the England coaching staff including Silverwood, spin coach Jeetan Patel, pace bowling coach Jon Lewis, and strength & conditioning specialist Darren Veness are isolated in Melbourne, Adam Hollioake, the former England ODI was planned to join as England coaching staff. But he won’t be able to do so as he also became a close contact and has been forced into 7 days isolation.
Thus, only Graham Thorpe, the assistant coach of the team will be with the squad and has taken charge for the 4th Test in Sydney supported by James Foster and Ant Botha. The 4th Test will start on January 5.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has confirmed the news in a statement. The board disclosed that Silverwood has been isolated in Melbourne since December 30 and will remain in isolation until January 8.
According to the statement, the head coach is currently asymptomatic and is fully vaccinated. He is expected to join the team before the 5th Test in Hobart which will start on January 14.
