David Warner can apply for exemption from ban

Australia’s left-arm opener David Warner was banned for ball-tampering. He was barred from captaining the Australian team due to a lifetime ban. Despite his experience, he was unable to captain Australia. But now this opener can apply for exemption from the ban.

According to Cricket Australia, the request to change the code of conduct has been accepted and formal recognition has also been given. Warner will have to appeal to a three-member review committee for relief or a reduced sentence.

The Australian Cricket Board said, “Under the new rules players and staff will now be able to apply for longer-term penalty changes. Any application will be considered by a three-member review committee made up of the Code of Conduct Commissioners.”

It should be noted that earlier this opener was involved in the ball-tampering incident in the Test series against South Africa in 2018. Steven Smith was banned from the captaincy for two years for his involvement in the incident, but Warner was banned from the captaincy for life. However, with the amendment of Australia’s code of conduct, getting captaincy became easier for Warner.
