The New Zealand cricket team will tour India soon after the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 where 3 T20Is and 2 Test matches will be played. The Kiwis have already announced the squads for the two series. However, left-arm top-order batsman Devon Conway has been ruled out due to a right-hand injury.
Conway was bowled out for 46 off 38 balls in the first semi-final match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 against England in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday. He got angry after losing his wicket in such a way and he punched his bat in frustration. That is what caused the disaster. When he felt discomfort in his hand after leaving the field, he underwent an X-ray. As can be seen, the fifth Metacarpal of the right arm of this left-handed Kiwi batter is broken.
The New Zealand wicketkeeper-batsman has been ruled out of the upcoming series against India and also missed the final match of the ICC T20 World Cup, due to the injury. In a New Zealand Cricket (NZC) release, the head coach Gary Stead said that Conway’s omission was “disappointing”. He is a dedicated soul for the team and no one was more disappointed in this incident than he was.
Meanwhile, right-arm opener Daryl Mitchell, who performed well in the T20 World Cup, has been named in the Test squad for the India tour instead of Devon Conway. He led the team to the final by playing an unbeaten inning of 72 runs in the semi-final match.
Mitchell made his debut in 2019, he has played 5 Tests since then and scored his first century against Pakistan in Christchurch in January 2021.
The New Zealand cricket team will fly to India on Monday and the T20I series will start from next 17th November (Wednesday). The Test series will be played on November 25, where the two matches will be part of the World Test Championship.
