Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has clinched a 91-run victory over Delhi Capitals (DC) thanks to an impeccable innings by Devon Conway at the DY Patel Stadium in Mumbai on the second match of the IPL 2022 Sunday’s doubleheader. This was their second win after MS Dhoni took over the captaincy.

After winning the toss, DC captain Rishabh Pant decided to bowl sending CSK to bat first. CSK’s two openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway got off to a flying start. The duo picked up 57 runs without losing a wicket in 6 overs of Power Play.

Together, these two made a huge opening pair of 110 runs. Basically, this pair formed the base for CSK’s big score. Shivam Dube came on the wicket when opener Ruturaj Gaikwad returned with 41 off 33 balls. Dube made 32 off 19 balls.

In the meantime, Devon Conway was unstoppable with the bat in his hands. He played a 87-run tornado innings of 49 balls. He hit 5 sixes with 7 boundaries. After his dismissal, Ambati Rayudu (5), Moeen Ali (9), and Robin Uthappa (0) returned to the dressing room one by one.

But in the end, MS Dhoni played a stormy innings of unbeaten 21 runs off 8 balls. As a result, CSK lost 6 wickets in 20 overs and collected a huge score of 208 runs.

For DC, Anrich Nortje took the maximum number of 3 wickets for 42 runs in 4 overs. Besides, Khaleel Ahmed took 2 wickets and Mitchell Marsh took 1 wicket.

DC made a good start after coming down to chase the big score of 209 runs. They lost 2 wickets in 6 overs of Power Play and scored 59 runs. But in front of CSK’s aggressive bowling attack, Rishabh Pant’s team kept losing wickets at regular intervals.

In the absence of regular DC opener Prithvi Shaw, Srikar Bharat (8 off 5 balls), who got a place in the team, failed to play a good innings. David Warner also returned to the dressing room making 19 runs off 12 balls. Mitchell Marsh and Rishabh Pant then tried to get the team back in the match.

The two batsmen put on 36 off 19 balls for the third wicket partnership. But in CSK’s spinner Moeen Ali’s whirlwind magic, these two made their way to the pavilion. Mitchell Marsh scored 25 off 20 balls and Rishabh Pant scored 21 off 11 balls.

After that, in the procession of batsmen coming and going on the wicket, no other batsman could score well except the innings of Shardul Thakur (24 off 19 balls). As a result, DC was all-out for 117 in 17.4 overs.

For CSK, Moeen Ali took the maximum number of 3 wickets conceding just 13 runs in 4 overs. Besides, Simarjeet Singh, Mukesh Choudhary, and Dwayne Bravo snapped up 2 and Maheesh Theekshana took 1 wicket.

Chennai Super Kings have climbed up to 8th place in the points table with 4 wins and 7 losses in 11 matches. On the other hand, with 5 wins and 6 losses in 11 matches, Delhi Capitals is now in the 5th position of the standings.
